Dear Colleagues,
I am excited to welcome you to our website and would love the opportunity to work with you.
I have a long background in dentistry which dates back in the late 80’s and have had been blessed to have worked with some pretty amazing people along the way. In the early nineties, and through my Dalhousie BSc (Biology 1995), I worked as a periodontal hygienist (Dalhousie 1994) and later graduated from Dalhousie Dental School (2000). Seeing my passion for saving teeth, I was encouraged me to pursue a career in Periodontics. I graduated from the University of British Columbia (2003) with a Master of Science and a Diploma of Periodontics (and Implantology). Over my career, I have had many great mentors and continue my education and association with some of the best and most knowledgeable periodontists and implantologists in the world. I work 4 days a week in my Halifax office and see a lot of patients who travel from all parts of the Atlantic provinces.
My philosophy of dentistry is simple: I love saving teeth and a natural tooth is usually better than any replacement. However, not all teeth can be saved so I am fortunate to have had extensive knowledge and training in the placement of dental implants as per my 3 year periodontal training program at UBC. I have been placing dental implants for almost 20 years and currently place Nobel, Bio Horizon, Astra and Straumann.
My philosophy of working with other dentists is also simple: good communication is key and I am here to facilitate your treatment. Most of my patients are referred to me by the dentist or other specialists, however, I do accept self referrals and always aim to get them set up with good dentists. Good periodontal health goes hand in hand with good restorative dentistry. Together, we can work together to improve patients’ oral and overall health.
When collaborating with me, you can expect to work with someone who loves what she does, is passionate about her patients’ periodontal health and is willing to work with you to achieve your / patients’ restorative goals. I always try to keep you up to date with what is happening with your patients and you can expect letters, reports and radiographs from me on a regular and timely basis. Additionally, I am always available to communicate with you on the phone or you can contact me via text.
While I usually have my head in a journal, periodontics is not my whole life. I am married and have three children, ages 12, 18 and 20. I love to play fiddle, paint, garden, be outside and spend time at my Cape Breton cottage (you can take the girl out of Cape Breton but you can’t take Cape Breton out of the girl!). I have a Border Collie (Charlie) and a budgie (Spice).
If you would like me to assist you in the periodontal or implant treatment of your patient, please send referrals or questions to our treatment coordinators at 902-406- gums (4867) or email perio@halifaxperio.com or fax (902)- 446- gums (4867).
Kindest Regards,
